Men's Cross Country Season Preview/Review

Sasquatch Harriers win NWAACC Titles!

11/10/2007

The 2007 men and women’s cross country season ended on a historic high note at Lewisville State Park in Battle Ground, Washington.  The men and women both defended their 2006 NWAACC championship titles by considerable margins which enabled them to also bring home the combined NWAACC team title for the top overall program.

The six-time defending NWAACC championship men’s team led the conference from start to finish this year culminating in a NWAACC record seventh team title in a row dating back to 2001.  Scoring the third lowest team total in NWAACC championship history, the Sasquatch placed five men in the top seven to score nineteen points.  The men were led by individual champion Dak Riek, second place Mark Moeller, fourth place Tyler Rapp, fifth place Charles Cummings, and seventh place Max Reeder.  All were awarded All-American certificates for their placing.  Freshman Walter Juarez finished in tenth overall to earn All-Conference.  Freshman Stephen Olsen, suffering from an illness, managed to finish twenty-seventh overall.  The Sasquatch topped runner-up Everett Community College and third place Lane Community College by over fifty points.  Head Coach Erik Anderson was voted Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season.

The Lady Sasquatch found themselves in the position of defending champions after winning the 2006 title, their first since 2001.  As such, all eyes were on them and they did not disappoint.  Scoring twenty-six team points at the championships, they literally ran away from runner-up Everett Community College and third place Lane Community Colleges by nearly fifty points.  Placing four runners in the top six overall, the Sasquatch dominated the championships as well as the season.  Freshman Brittnee Sanchez won the individual title and was closely followed by teammates Karen Owens in third, Amy Durrance in fifth, and sister Katie Owens in sixth.  They were awarded All-American certificates for their efforts.  Rounding out the Sasquatch were Larsen Agee in twelfth overall, Robyn Swanson in nineteenth, and Alli Price in twenty-second place.  Head Coach Erik Anderson was voted Co-Coach of the Year for the second season in a row.

ogether the men and women combined to win their fourth consecutive Combined Team Championship as the top community college cross country program in the Northwest.
