Sasquatch Men Hold off Warriors

ActionThe Community Colleges of Spokane Men’s Basketball team held off the Warriors of Walla Walla CC to gain a tough 88-77 conference win in front of a packed house at Spokane Falls. The win, televised regionally on SWX, improved the Sasquatch to 15-3 on the year, and 5-1 in conference play. The Warriors fell to 3-3 in the East Region.

The Warriors jumped out to a 9-0 early in the game behind three consecutive 3-point field goals to gain the early advantage. Spokane responded, however, with a 24-6 run over the next six minutes to take control midway through the first half. Walla Walla unleashed their three-point arsenal to get back in the game and take the lead at the 6:00 minute mark and the rest of the opening period went back and forth before the Sasquatch took a 42-41 lead into intermission.

The second half proved to be a game of runs in which Spokane twice assumed 10 point leads that evaporated quickly due to the Warriors ability to hit the deep ball. In the end, however, Spokane was able to get the stops they needed down the stretch to pull out the victory.

Griffon Jones dominated for Spokane in a matchup of talented big men, holding down Walla Walla’s two-headed inside attack while contributing 32 points and 10 rebounds. Zack Humphrey added 16 points, while Chris Pynch tallied 12 points and 10 assists. Kevin Bond scored all of his 12 points in the second half.

Spokane will travel to Columbia Basin in Pasco this Saturday for a 6:00 pm tipoff to cap off the first round of NWAACC East Region play.
