Spokane Wins NIC Invitational by 26 shots, Meyers Captures Medalist Honors

MeyersCCS capped off the fall season with an impressive 26 shot victory in the North Idaho College Invitational on the challenging Avondale Golf Course in Hayden, ID.  The par 72 track has out of bounds lining 17 of the 18 holes and is known for its extremely fast, sloped greens.

The tournament featured 14 teams, 9 of which were four-year schools from the NAIA and NCAA Division II levels.

Corey Meyers took a 3-shot lead with his first round of 1-under par, 71.  He backed it up with a solid 75 on the second day to earn a 1-shot victory over teammate Sam Krause who finished the tournament with the day’s best round of 1-under par 71.  Tyler Johnson shot 77-74 to finish in a tie for 3rd.  Jason Molner and Taylor Porter finished in the top 10 of the 93 player filed with finishes of 155 and 156 respectively.  “The course was playing as difficult as I have ever seen it with the lightning fast greens and high winds.  The scores were extremely high across the board and I think it is safe to say that in many cases the golf course won the tournament.  I am really proud of our guys for playing well in difficult conditions and against good competition.  Anytime we get the opportunity to play against four-year schools, we look at it as a good challenge, said Coach Scott Kramer.

The victory completes the fall season and will be a nice confidence builder heading into the off season.  Spokane will continue to play and practice through the month of October before beginning their strength and condition program with strength coach, Travis Warner.
