Sasquatch Hang on for 75-70 Victory Over Big Bend

Big BendThe Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team finished strong to defeat the Running Vikings of Big Bend by a score of 75-70 to open NWAACC East Region play on Saturday Spokane Falls Community College. Spokane jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead to begin the game, but Big Bend responded right away to take a 12-11 lead of their own.

The game went back and forth with neither team able to pull away for the rest of the first half. Early in the second period the Sasquatch were able to pull out to a nine point lead and looked to be taking control of the contest. The Vikings, however, responded by coming alive from behind the three point line to even the score.

As the second half came to a close, Spokane stretched a lead again to nine points with 2:00 minutes remaining. Three quick three-point baskets by Big Bend scattered in with two missed lay-ins and four missed free throws for Spokane led to a one point Spokane advantage with 40 seconds left. Kevin Cameron then stole a cross-court pass and converted a full-court lay-in to push the lead to three. Cameron then proceeded to steal the outlet pass from the Vikings and throw it ahead to Brad Johnson to stretch the lead once again and Spokane hung on to claim the 75-70 win.

Spokane was led by Damal Neil with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Brendan Ingebritsen and Brad Johnson added 14 and 11 respectively.  Kevin Cameron dished out 8 assists to go along with those two clutch steals. Big Bend was led by the 22 points and 12 rebounds of Kolby Secrist. With the win the Sasquatch improved to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. Wednesday night Spokane travels to Wenatchee to take on the Knights of Wenatchee Valley College.
