The Community College of Spokane’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September is Lateashea Currie.  Lateashea, a 2008 graduate of Heritage High School in Vancouver, Washington, is a freshman on the CCS women’s soccer team.  Lateashea is averaging a goal per match and leads the team in scoring with nine, which also places her in the top three in the conference.  She currently is number two on the team in assists as well.  Lateashea has started in eight of nine matches this season for the Sasquatch and in the month of September, she helped the team secure the top spot in the Eastern Region standings.  Lateashea’s contributions have also helped keep the team undefeated boasting the top record in the conference.  In addition, Lateashea has been a standout sprinter for the track and field team for the past two years.  She plans to finish her A.A. degree and transfer to a four-year university to pursue her bachelor’s degree and compete in both track and soccer.

Congratulations Lateashea!

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for September is David Kenny.  David, a member of the CCS soccer team, is a sophomore defender from University High School.  David not only excels on the field but in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA.  David was a starting defender his freshman year and has remained a starter as a sophomore.  As a freshman he was a key player for the team’s fourth place NWAACC tournament finish.  David is the type of player that coaches love to have, as he is easy to coach and will not let his team down.  David and teammates have high expectations for the 2010 men’s soccer team, starting with an Eastern Region championship and a return to the NWAACC Final Four, this time winning the championship.  Good luck this season David and thank you for your hard work!

Congratulations David!
