Lorenzo, CCS Win First Tournament of the Season

The Community Colleges of Spokane Men's Golf Team picked up where they left off last season.  The two-time defending NWAACC Champions won the season opening North Idaho College Invitational Golf Tournament by a convincing 16-shot margin.

Freshman Cole Lorenzo (Richland HS), playing in his first career college event shot rounds of 66-70-75 - 211, finishing at 5-under par and with a 7-shot victory over former CCS golf star, Jason Molner who currently plays for NAIA Division I Lewis Clark State College.  "Avondale is a very tricky golf course with out of bounds on 17 of the 18 holes.  The greens are very fast and really protect the course.  Cole was 8-under par after the first 36 holes and that is every impressive," stated Head Coach Scott Kramer.

Lorenzo was joined in the top 10 by teammates Evan Omelia (74-75-74 - 223) and Kurt Simmons (74-72-77 - 223).

The field included 5, 4-year schools and a very competitive North Idaho College team who returns many players from last year's competitive team.  Kramer commented, "We are an extremely young team with a roster of 2 returners and 7 new freshman.  To come out after only one week of practicing together and shoot impressive team scores, is a great accomplishment.  Lewis Clark State and Whitworth will be near the top of their respective conferences and NIC is capable of shooting under par team scores.  I am very excited to see our team progress as the guys get more college golf experience and grow as a team."

Spokane will compete in the fall season's only league tournament on September 30 - October 1 at the Centralia College Invitational at the Riverside Golf Club in Chehalis, WA.
