District Wellness Program
The CCS Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation Department conducts a Wellness Program geared to meet the needs of CCS employees and students. The Wellness Program focuses on educating, motivating, and directing people toward a positive, fitness-oriented and healthy lifestyle. Information is available on diet, nutrition and exercise. Program goals are to enhance the quality of life for participants, as well as reduce the risks for health related problems and fitness injuries.
A variety of activities are offered geared to meet a range of individual needs. Activities include organized classes, intramural opportunities and open facility usage. Available classes cover a range of intensity levels accommodating beginning participants as well as those wishing more challenging options. Classes offered include Basic Fitness, Fit for Life, Aerobic Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, Mind Body Fitness, Body Conditioning, Jogging, Karate, Weight Training and Fast Fitness. Facilities are available for participant usage during open scheduling hours. This includes locker/shower rooms, swimming pool (SCC), weight rooms, exercise equipment, indoor/outdoor tracks, gymnasiums, fitness trails, tennis courts and athletic fields.
The Wellness Challenge incentive program is designed each year to encourage participation of CCS employees. Points are given for fitness, health, wellness, safety, nutrition and environment activities. The awards have included t-shirts, socks, gloves, sweatshirts and other incentives. Both campuses have information and specific details needed for earning awards. A Wellness Matching Time program for full-time classified staff directed by Travis Warner and the SCC coordinator, Michele Heuer, is available at SCC, SFCC and IEL. A computer-tracking program in the Wellness Office keeps both the participants in this program and their supervisors informed of their attendance. CCS will continue to offer a variety of wellness programs. Appointments for individual consultations can be made with the physical and health education or wellness staff. |
