Stephanie Cummings

Jasen Brown

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February is Stephenie Cummings.  Stephenie is a freshman on the CCS track and field team from Snohomish, Washington.  She was the WIAA 400 meter state champion in 2010. Stephenie spent the fall with the CCS women’s soccer team where she was instrumental in the team’s third place finish at the NWAACC Championships.  Stephenie has had an immediate impact in track as her time of 56.03 in the 400 meters at the University of Washington Open helped her claim second place overall and obliterate the former school record. She also ran a personal best in the 200 meters (25.59) at the UW Open and helped the women run 3:59.02 in the 1600 relay. A week later at the WSU Open II Stephenie ran an impressive 2:18.13 in the first indoor 800 meter race of her career.

Congratulations Stephenie!

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February is Jasen Brown.  Jasen is a sophomore on the CCS track and field team from Brewster, Washington.  He has been one of the leading 800 meter runners in the NWAACC since his freshman season where he posted a 1:53.02 outdoor season best.  Jasen earned All-American status with his second place conference finish. Following a redshirt 2010 season, Jasen entered 2011 as one of the favorites to win the conference title. In Seattle, at the prestigious Husky Classic held at University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor, Jasen raced around the pack on the final lap to finish third overall and claimed the CCS indoor record for 800 meters with his 1:52.66. Jasen also ran a leg on the fifth place 4 x 400 meter relay team in the meet, behind Alabama, UCLA, and two other PAC-10 schools.

Congratulations Jasen!
