Chelsea Lawhead

Spencer Wordell

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February is Chelsea Lawhead. Chelsea is a Team Captain and very dedicated athlete on the CCS track and field team.  Her hard work during the fall and winter was evident in the January and February indoor meets where Chelsea ran personal bests in the 200, 400 and 800. She also ran the third leg on the CCS school record mile relay team in February. Chelsea will have a huge impact on the team’s success this spring running anywhere from 100-800 and both relays. Chelsea is a sophomore maintaining a 3.44 GPA and planning to enter the dental hygienist program this fall.

Congratulations Chelsea!

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for February is Spencer Wordell. Wordell, a freshman CCS track and field athlete, was a high school state placer in the 300 hurdles from Spokane and took seventh in the 400 intermediate hurdles at the high school national championships in North Carolina. In his first collegiate indoor season, Spencer broke a nine-year old school record in the indoor pentathlon with a score of 3291. With the outdoor season upon him, Spencer stands to continue his strong start, and has the potential to earn All-American status in the 400 hurdles, high jump, decathlon and the 1600 relay. Spencer is one of the hardest working athletes on this season’s squad, leads quietly by example, and represents the CCS team and Athletic Department well through his academic and athletic success.

Congratulations Spencer!
