Spokane Owns Share of Lead After Winning NWAACC Tournament in Yakima

The Community Colleges of Spokane men’s golf team narrowly beat second place finisher Southwestern Oregon Community College to create tie at 26 points with SWOCC and Walla Walla Community College heading into the fourth and final All-NWAACC tournament on May 3-4 at the Green River Community College held at Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, WA.

Spokane shot a 3 over par, 291 the first day at the par 72 Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, WA and a 6 over par 294 on the second day.  The two day total of 585 was won shot better than SWOCC at 286.  “The margin for error is very tight in this league as there are 4 or 5 teams that can win any given tournament.  I am very happy with the way our guys competed over the two days and really grinded out some good scores on the second day when we really weren’t playing our best,” commented Coach, Scott Kramer.

Spokane had 5 golfers crack the top 14 in the 58 person men’s field.  Sam Krause (71-76, 147) and Taylor Porter (75-72, 147) tied for 6th, Tyler Johnson (76-72, 148) and Jason Molner (69-79, 148) tied for 10th and Kyler Gable (76-74, 150) tied for 14th.  Robert Lane (80-76, 156) placed 28th for the Sasquatch.

The victory was the thirrd big invitational win of the season for Spokane after winning the Grays Harbor College and the Columbia Basin College invitational’s during the fall season.
