Spokane Wins Crucial League Tournament

ActionAlthough the Sasquatch have enjoyed a lot of team and individual success during the 2009-2010 season, Spokane found themselves 1.5 pointes back in the league standings heading into the tournament.  During the first league tournament of the season hosted by Skagit Valley College on September 27-28 at Avalon in Burlington, WA, Spokane was defeated by the hosts by 6 strokes and was tied by Bellevue College.  This gave Skagit Valley a comfortable 1.5 point lead because teams get a point for every team you beat in a league tournament and because of the tie it gave Skagit virtually a 2 point lead.

Spokane claimed the tournament by a 13 shot margin over 2nd place Bellevue with Skagit Valley College 16 shots back.  The victory gave Spokane a .5 lead over Skagit and a 1 point lead over Bellevue with 2 remaining league tournaments.  CCS was 15-under par for the two rounds as a team with scores of 283-278.  Corey Meyers was 7-under par himself, finishing in 2nd place with rounds of 69-68.  Sam Krause shot 70-71 and Tyler Johnson 71-70 to both finish at 3-under par and tie for 5th place.  Kyler Gable earned an 8th place finish with rounds of 73-70 to finish at 1-under par.

“The team played great, especially on the 2nd day when the pressure is really on.  The fact that we had to throw out a round of 71, 1-under par on the 2nd day is pretty amazing.  Having 4 scores at 2-under or more on the 2nd day of a big, league tournament says a lot about the quality of players,” commented Coach Kramer.  Kevin Shewfelt of Bellevue College was the medalist with an impressive 9-under par 135.

Taylor Porter (75-70) and Jason Molner (74-73) rounded out the scoring for Spokane.  The two finished 11th and 13th respectively.

Spokane is hosting the 3rd league tournament of the year on April 25-26 at Esmeralda Golf Course and Hangman Valley Golf Course.
