Spokane Defeats Yakima to Lay Claim to East Region Title

ActionThe Community Colleges of Spokane Men's Basketball Team used a 12-2 run late in the game to secure a hard-fought road victory at Yakima Valley College by a score of 95-88. The win gives Spokane a share of the East Region title, their third straight and fifth in the last six years. 
 
Spokane controlled the game early, and held an 11 advantage at 33-22 with 5:41 to play in the first half before Yakima responded. The Yaks closed the half strong and took a 46-42 lead into the break. Yakima continued their surge to open the second half and extended their lead to 55-44 with 15:51 to play. Back to back three-pointers by Zack Humphrey fueled a Spokane run that led to a tie game at 61-61 with 11:48 remaining. The game went back and forth for the next ten minutes with neither team leading by more than four points before the Sasquatch finished strong to grab the victory.
 
Humphrey led the Sasquatch in scoring with 26 points, connecting on six shots from beyond the arc. Griffon Jones added 23 points and 10 rebounds while Danny Marshall scored 14 and Kevin Bond chipped in with 11 points. Chris Pynch had a good floor game adding nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
 
Spokane will travel to Kennewick next weekend for the NWAACC tournament at the Toyota Center. They will matchup in the first round with Clackamas Community College, the defending NWAACC Champions, at 12:00 pm on Saturday March 6th.
