Sasquatch Hold of Hawks to Finish the First Round of Conference

The Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team finished off the first round of conference play with a 76-66 victory over Columbia Basin College (CBC) on Saturday night at Spokane Falls Community College. The win keeps Spokane in first place tie with Yakima atop the NWAACC East Region.
The Sasquatch used a 17-4 spurt midway through the second half to separate from the Hawks with 11 minutes remaining. CBC, however, made one final push and cut the Spokane lead to three points with just over two minutes left, but Spokane converted all six of their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
The Sasquatch (14-4, 6-1) were led in scoring by Derek Gianukakis who had 24 points and connected on 6/11 shots beyond the arc. Damal Neil added 16 points while Griffon Jones chipped in 13. Kevin Cameron dished out a team high 10 assists. The Hawks were led by the 16 points apiece from Andy Maxwell and Morgan Hyslop.
