October Scholar-Athletes of the Month

Armarose Bailey

Matt Miller

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October is Armarose Bailey.  Armarose, a sophomore on the cross country team, has been in the top five finishers for the Sasquatch at every meet this year.  Her hard work and dedication are paying off as she has now improved her personal best for 5k by over 90 seconds running 19:38 at the Lewis-Clark State College Invitational on October 24th.  As the Team Captain and member of last year’s NWAACC Cross Country and Track and Field Championship teams, she is a major piece of the puzzle as the Sasquatch aim to win their fourth consecutive NWAACC title and 12th in the program’s history.

Coach Sean McLachlan commented, “Armarose is a joy to coach.  She brings a good attitude to practice every day, a smile on her face, and will do what you ask of her.”  Armarose was selected to represent the athletic department on the District Athletic Committee.  In addition Armarose was named to the 2009-10 NWAACC All-Academic Cross Country team and the Vice Presidents Honor Roll.  A student in the Nursing program, Armarose carries a 3.28 G.P.A., while working a part time job.

Congratulations Armarose!

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October is Matt Miller.  Matt is a sophomore forward/midfielder on the CCS soccer team from East Valley High School in Spokane.  As a true freshman Matt broke a bone in his foot which led to a redshirt season.  Matt is in his third year with the Sasquatch.

Matt is both a leader on the field and off, his class work and a 3.17 G.P.A. have shown his ability to be a true student-athlete.  Matt is one of the Team Captains and has started nearly every game during his Sasquatch career.  Matt has been an integral part of the team and the playoff run made in 2008 as well as the current playoff run for the 2009 season.  The coaching staff thanks Matt for his hard work, dedication and wishes him nothing but the best!

Congratulations Matt!
