Spokane Crowned NWAACC Regular Season Champions With Win

Kyler Gable

CCS began the Green River Community College Invitational in a three way tie for first place in the competitive NWAACC, but finished the tournament as regular season champions.  Spokane’s 587 was 3 strokes better than second place Bellevue College on the home course of the University of Washington golf team.  Kyler Gable carded a second place finish for the second week in a row and used a two under par, 70 second round to go along with a 75 on the first day.  Sam Krause and Taylor Porter shot a pair of 5 over par, 149’s to finish in a tie for seventh.  Tyler Johnson shot a second round 70 to help secure the regular season title for the Sasquatch and finish in a tie for twelfth individually.

Spokane’s 36-4 regular season record was two points better than second place Walla Walla Community College and 4 points better than third place Bellevue College.  The regular season NWAACC champion is decided by the accumulation of four tournaments, 1 in the fall and 3 in the spring, where all of the NWAACC Schools compete.  Spokane finished second by one stroke at the Walla Walla tournament last fall, finished fourth in the Bellevue tournament at the first spring tournament, and swept the last two tournaments at Yakima and at the Green River Invitational.

“The fact that the regular season champion of the NWAACC is a result of four tournaments, shows that we have been very consistent all season long.  I think it is a direct result of the work ethic and talent of our team.  The guys made it through a long winter and a very difficult start to the spring with the bad weather to shoot some great score throughout the year.  I am very proud of their accomplishments,“ said Coach Scott Kramer.

The team will travel to world renowned Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the Oregon Coast next weekend for the final invitational of the season.  The tournament does not count towards regular season standings, but is a great opportunity for the team.
