Ryan is in his seventh year as the CCS throws coach after finishing his collegiate career at Texas A&M Kingsville. While at Kingsville, Ryan won the Division II Javelin Championship in 2000 after earning third place in 1999. These top finishes earned Ryan two Division II All-American honors. He also competed in the hammer throw at Kingsville and won a conference championship in the event in 2000. Ryan’s personal best of 233'10" in the javelin qualified him for the 2006 USATF National Championships. Ryan began his collegiate career at CCS in 1996 and received two junior college All-American honors and was runner-up in the NWAACC javelin in 1998. In Ryan’s second year as the head throwing coach for CCS his athletes broke two school records in the hammer, Zach Schaefer with a 194'03" hammer throw at Kingsville and won a conference championship in the event in 2000. Ryan’s personal best of 233'10" mark and Cassie Rossette with a 162'02" mark. The 2003 season saw one of Ryan’s athletes break the NWAACC discus record with a throw of 173'4” which was also the NWAACC Conference Record. In 2006 Jake Shanklin broke the hammer record with a throw of 194'10". In 2007 Patrick McCormick broke the school record in the javelin with a throw of 234'07" which was the top throw in the country for a junior college athlete. Ryan’s personal best of 233'10" in the javelin qualified him for the 2006 USATF Track and Field Championships. Ryan has coached 58 All-Americans in track in his seven year stint as the head throwing coach. Ryan and his wife Jeanene have two children, a son Kyler and a daughter Cyisa.
