CCS Men's Golf Wins Green River Invitational

The Sasquatch Men's Golf Team won their 6 consecutive tournament of the season, and second league event.  There are 4 league tournaments that make up the NWAACC regular season.  For each opponent a team defeats during regular season play, that team earns a point.

The tournament was played at Washington National Golf Club, the home of the nationally ranked University of Washington golf team.  The 6900 yard, par 72 lay out was drenched with water.  The rainy, sloppy conditions made it difficult to shoot low scores, but the Sasquatch overcame the conditions to post 2 nice team rounds.

Sophomore Kurt Simmons led the way for the Sasquatch with rounds of 73-72 to finish at 1-over par and a tie for second place.  Fellow sophomore Ben Vandenberg also had a top 4 finish with rounds of 75-71, shooting one of the only sub-par rounds of the tournament.

"Playing well in difficult conditions is just as much or of a mental challenge as a physical challenge.  When the course is as sloppy and wet as Washington National was, all the more reason to execute a game plan and rely on sound technique.  Instead of complaining and using the course conditions as an excuse for poor scores, our guys were tough and played very well," said Coach Kramer.

Freshman Evan Omelia finished in a tie for 8th with rounds of 75-73 and Cole Lorenzo shot an impressive even-par 72 during the second round helping the team earn a 5-shot victory over second place Southwestern Oregon CC.
