Timberwolves Stun Sasquatch on Last-Second Shot

Blue MountainThe final possession was indicative of the entire game for the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team in their loss to Blue Mountain Community College on Friday night. After having two players have their hands on the ball, it popped loose into the hands of a Blue Mountain player who drilled a long range jumper from the corner with 0.9 seconds left that resulted in a 64-62 win for the visiting Timberwolves.

Blue Mountain held a 34-31 advantage at half after both teams exchanged leads in the first period. The second half proved to be much of the same before Blue Mountain stretched a lead to seven points, most common off of turnovers committed by the Sasquatch.

“We were very fortunate to get back into the game there late after we allowed them to pull away,” Sasquatch coach Clint Hull said.

“The story of the game was our inability to take care of the ball. It was more than just committing 21 turnovers, it was the fact that they led to 28 points for them. The majority of them were not balls thrown out of bounds either, they were thrown away directly for lay-ins,” said Hull.

The loss was the first in conference play for Spokane (11-4, 3-1) and they are now tied for first with Yakima, while Blue Mountain (8-10, 2-2) moved into a tie for second place. The Sasquatch were led in scoring by Zack Humphrey with 17 points while Brad Johnson chipped in 11.
