SFCC Weight Room

SFCC weight roomIn the fall of 2000, SFCC opened a new 2,500 sq ft weight room. The space was originally a small gymnasium but was remodeled as part of a larger expansion project. A new rolled rubber floor was laid over the existing basketball hardwood. With natural lighting from a roof top skylight, the space is certainly not your typical weight room. A 30-foot high ceiling gives the space a great open feel that is complimented by numerous full-length mirrors.

The equipment is state-of-the-art, combining Cybex, LifeFitness and Hammer strength machines. Troy dumbbells in 2.5-pound increments range from 2.5 pounds to 100 pounds. Fixed barbells from Irongrip allow for a variety of exercises to be performed. The training philosophy is centered on the concept of "functional" training. Students use a variety of supplemental equipment such as fitballs, stretch tubing, balance boards, slide boards and ground-based exercises. The intent is to focus training on the "core" muscles and the smaller muscle groups that will support the larger full-body movements.

If a community member (18 and over) wants to use the fitness center/weight room they can do so by registering for a continuing education class.

Both campuses offer this class, SCC continuing education location is in building 16, room 132A, you can register and pay at that office. At SFCC it is through admissions and you pay at the cashiers office.
