Spokane Opens Up the 2008 Season
Spokane opened up in the Dalles, Oregon this weekend with a 4-3 loss to Clackamas CC. Starter Tucker Seitz went four innings giving up three earned runs. Rex Ireland came on to relieve Seitz in the 5th inning. Ireland threw three scoreless innings allowing two hits while striking out two. Offensively Spokane was led by Adam Smith and Kelly Gau with two hits apiece. Smith hit his first homerun of the season in the 6th inning. Justin Loya and Gau had doubles for Spokane in the game.
Spokane lost the second game of the double header 6-1. Starter Paul Smith threw three plus innings giving up three earned runs. Adam Hill and Travis Bradshaw finished the game in relief. Spokane’s offense was led by Matt Starr and Kelly Gau with two hits apiece. Jordan Johnson added a double for Spokane.
Spokane took on Linn-Benton CC on Sunday morning. Spokane lost the first game 1-0. Starter Mike Richard threw five scoreless innings allowing just one hit. Josh Davis took the loss for Spokane in relief. Davis allowed just one unearned run to score on one hit. Brett Riggin threw an inning and a third of scoreless relief. Spokane managed just two hits offensively. Cory Kreighbaum had a double in the third inning but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Kevin Ricker had the other hit for Spokane.
Spokane’s bats came alive in the fourth game of the weekend. Spokane pounded out 14 hits. The Sasquatch were led by Mat Starr and Kelly Gau with three hits apiece. Starr had a double and a triple and scored three runs. Cory Kreighbaum, Cody Reeves and Kevin Ricker each had two hits apiece including a double. Starting Pitcher Mark Purser earned the win for Spokane. Mark threw five shutout innings allowing just one hit. Purser struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. Conor Hodgins and Casey Mitchell finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief apiece.
Spokane returns home to play South West Oregon CC on March 8-9.
