Jeremy Groth Named Head Coach of Men's Basketball Program

CCS Athletic Director, Ken Burrus is proud to announce that former assistant coach, Jeremy Groth has been promoted to head coach of the successful men’s basketball program.

Groth is a former Curlew High School basketball star where he is still second on the state of Washington’s all-time scoring list with 2,447 points.  Groth went on to have an all-star two-year career at Eastern Region Rival Big Bend Community College where he helped lead the Vikings to the championship game of the NWAACC basketball tournament during his sophomore season.  Coach Groth continued his playing career at NAIA Division I power, Concordia of Irvine, CA.  He was a key player on the 2003 NAIA National Championship team and the 2004 National Runner-up team.  Groth finished his career at Concordia with a .439 three point shooting percentage while making 264 three pointers.  His name appears at or near the top of many categories in the record books at Concordia.

In addition to Coach Groth’s playing experience, he has been a part of two highly successful coaching staffs, including four seasons as the top assistant at CCS.  Upon finishing his bachelor’s degree in business/sports management at Concordia, Groth joined the coaching staff at his alma alter where the Eagles made deep runs in the national tournament each season.   While on the coaching staff, he completed his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration.

As a member of the Sasquatch Basketball staff the past four seasons, Groth was instrumental in the team’s success of reaching the season ending NWAACC Championship tournament each year.  Under his guidance a number of players have went on from CCS to continue their educations and basketball careers at four-year schools.

Coach Groth stated, “I am truly honored to be named the next head men’s basketball coach at Community Colleges of Spokane and to follow in the footsteps of the great coaches that have coached here before me.  They have instilled a special tradition at CCS that is first class.  The school and the whole CCS department will get my best effort going forward to keep this program at a consistently high level.  We have a remarkable group of young men this year that I am very excited to coach them and help them reach their full potential as individuals and collectively as a group.”

Coach Groth replaces Clint Hull who recently resigned from his coaching duties for personal reasons.
