Spokane Splits Doubleheader at Big Bend, Bounces Back with Game Two Shutout
Spokane split a Wednesday doubleheader on the road against Big Bend, falling 4-3 in the opener before responding with a dominant 8-0 shutout victory in game two.
Team Stats
Game 1: Big Bend 4, Spokane 3
Spokane jumped out early, manufacturing a run in the first and adding another in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Trent Woodhouse and Jake Bustamante each drove in runs as the Sasquatch offense collected 13 hits on the day.
Despite the strong offensive output, Spokane struggled to capitalize, leaving nine runners on base and failing to draw a walk.
Big Bend chipped away late, scoring once in the sixth and tying the game in the seventh on a Spokane error. The Vikings took the lead for good in the eighth with back-to-back RBI singles, making it 4-2.
Spokane mounted a final push in the ninth, plating one run on a Woodhouse RBI groundout, but couldn't complete the comeback.
On the mound, David Barnes was sharp early, tossing four no-hit innings while striking out seven, but control issues led to six walks. Braiden Boyd took the loss in relief as Big Bend capitalized late.
Game 2: Spokane 8, Big Bend 0
Spokane flipped the script in game two, turning in a complete performance on both sides of the ball.
After pushing across two runs in the third inning, the Sasquatch steadily built their lead, highlighted by a solo home run from Logan Spradling in the fourth. A three-run fifth inning, fueled by defensive miscues, and a two-run sixth broke the game open.
Woodhouse led the way with three RBIs, while Spradling reached base three times and scored twice.
The story of the game, however, was Spokane's pitching dominance. The Sasquatch combined for a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 Big Bend hitters.
Dylan Greenough-Groom set the tone with five hitless innings, and the bullpen trio of Owen Krasowski, Luke McGuire, and Andrew Fox slammed the door to secure the win.
