Yakima Valley Pulls Away Late in 82–72 Win Over Spokane
Grant Olsen delivered one of his strongest outings of the season with 29 points, yet Spokane couldn’t overcome Yakima Valley’s late push.
Spokane came up short Saturday afternoon, falling 82–72 to Yakima Valley in NWAC conference action at home despite an efficient scoring performance from Grant Olsen and strong bench production from the Sasquatch.
Yakima Valley set the tone early, building a 44–37 halftime advantage behind balanced offense and consistent trips to the free throw line. Spokane stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, led by Olsen's hot shooting and steady contributions across the lineup, but the Yaks maintained control with timely perimeter shooting and defensive pressure.
Olsen delivered one of his best outings of the season, finishing with a game-high 29 points on 11-for-14 shooting, adding six free throws and continuing to anchor Spokane's offense throughout the afternoon.
Spokane also received a spark from Carson Way, who knocked down three triples and scored 15 points off the bench. Javonte Boles added 7 points and 7 rebounds, while Eloy Chaparro contributed 5 assists in a team effort that saw Spokane finish with 20 assists on 28 made baskets.
Spokane battled on the glass, outrebounding Yakima Valley 38–28, but struggled from deep, finishing just 7-for-29 from beyond the arc. Turnovers also proved costly, as Yakima forced 16 giveaways and capitalized with key possessions late.
