- Assistant Jumps and Sprints Coach
Bio
Coach Kenny Keyes serves as an assistant coach for the Spokane Sasquatch, overseeing jumps and sprints. A proud Spokane alumnus, Keyes brings championship experience, technical expertise, and infectious energy back to the program he once competed for.
As a member of the 2005–06 men’s track and field team, Keyes helped lead the Sasquatch to a conference championship, a team later inducted into the Spokane Colleges Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. At the 2006 NWAC Championships, he anchored the championship-winning 4x100m relay team and scored in the 100m, long jump, high jump, and 4x400m relay. His personal bests include 11.10 in the 100m, 22.50 in the 200m, 23’6” in the long jump, and 6’6” in the high jump, earning him NWAC All-American honors during his collegiate career.
Keyes returned to Spokane in 2024 as a volunteer high jump coach during the indoor season, helping the Sasquatch capture another NWAC Championship. His athletes placed second and fourth in the women’s high jump, making him one of the few in program history to win a conference title both as an athlete and as a coach.
In addition to his role at Spokane Colleges, Keyes coaches high jump at Gonzaga Prep High School, where he has built one of Eastern Washington’s strongest programs over the past four years, producing multiple league champions and state placers.
Outside of coaching, Keyes is an educator at Spokane International Academy, where he brings the same enthusiasm and dedication to student growth that he shows on the track. Known for his positivity and deep technical knowledge of the jumps, Keyes is committed to helping athletes maximize their potential and enjoy the process of improvement.
He also enjoys sharing the sport with his 12-year-old son, Miles, who often joins him at practices and meets. A lifelong student of track and field, Keyes continues to train and compete in the high jump himself, with goals of winning a masters high jump championship.
