Fast Start by Everett Too Much for Spokane
Spokane showed fight early but could not overcome a first-inning surge by Everett in a 16-5 setback Saturday morning.
Spokane grabbed the early lead in the top of the first when Emma Cooke reached on a fielder's choice that brought home Samantha Rensvold for a 1-0 advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as Everett responded with a 10-run bottom half to take control of the game.
Everett capitalized on walks, hit batters, and defensive miscues to build its cushion. McNutt delivered the biggest blows of the inning with a two-run single, while Riggins added an RBI single during the rally. The home side followed with six more runs in the second to extend the lead to 16-3.
Spokane continued to compete offensively. In the second inning, Addyson Stewart lined an RBI single to score Zoie Maughan, and the team took advantage of an error to plate another run. In the third, Cadence Hyndman launched a solo home run to left field, and Allison Lapano followed with an RBI double to trim the deficit to 15-5.
Spokane collected six hits in the contest, including doubles from Samantha Rensvold and Allison Lapano. Zoie Maughan also added a hit and scored a run.
In the circle, Cassy Seifert took the loss, while Kynlea Toner and Samantha Rensvold combined in relief. Rensvold tossed two scoreless innings to close out the game.
Standout performers included Hyndman, who homered and drove in a run, Lapano, who doubled in a run, and Rensvold, who contributed at the plate and in the circle.
