Sasquatch Softball Claims East Region Championship
With the regular season now complete, Spokane softball enters postseason play following a Saturday split at Blue Mountain. The Sasquatch overcame a tough opener with a powerful offensive performance in game two, highlighted by four home runs and a complete-game effort from Cassy Seifert.
Game One: Blue Mountain 12, Spokane 4
Spokane jumped out early with two runs in the opening inning. Emma Cooke scored on a passed ball after Shelby Swanson delivered a sacrifice fly, giving the Sasquatch an early advantage. Emma Oergel added an RBI single in the second inning to put Spokane ahead 3-2.
Blue Mountain responded with a big third inning, scoring three runs highlighted by a two-run homer from Peyton Garcia. Spokane cut the deficit to one in the fourth when Cooke launched a solo home run, but Blue Mountain answered immediately with a five-run inning to take control.
Avery Krigbaum paced Blue Mountain offensively, finishing 4-for-4 with three doubles, five RBIs, and three runs scored. Garcia added three RBIs, including a two-run homer.
Cooke finished 1-for-1 with a home run, two runs scored, two walks, and an RBI for Spokane. Oergel went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lilley Triplett scored twice and stole two bases.
Game Two: Spokane 10, Blue Mountain 4
Spokane answered in game two with a power-filled offensive performance, hitting four home runs to earn the split.
The Sasquatch struck first in the opening inning when Emma Oergel singled home Lilley Triplett before Emma Cooke blasted a two-run homer to center field for a 3-0 lead.
Triplett added a solo homer in the fourth inning, and Cooke connected again in the fifth with her second home run of the game to extend Spokane's advantage.
Blue Mountain pulled within one run in the fourth inning behind a two-run homer from Avery Krigbaum, but Spokane broke the game open in the sixth. Oergel delivered another RBI single before Shelby Swanson crushed a grand slam to cap a five-run inning and put the game out of reach.
Cooke finished 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Swanson drove in four runs with her grand slam, while Triplett went 2-for-2 with a homer, three runs scored, and two walks. Oergel added two hits and two RBIs.
Cassy Seifert earned the complete-game victory in the circle, striking out 10 batters over seven innings while allowing five hits and four runs.
