Sasquatch Walk Off Everett to Stay Alive at NWAC Championships
The Sasquatch kept their postseason hopes alive Friday morning, walking off Everett 3-2 in eight innings during NWAC Championship action. Spokane now advances to face the loser of Lower Columbia and Edmonds at 4 p.m. Friday at Delta Park.
Sasquatch softball kept their postseason run alive Friday morning with a dramatic 3-2 extra-inning victory over Everett in the NWAC Softball Championships losers bracket at Delta Park.
After Everett erased Spokane's early two-run lead in the third inning, the Sasquatch delivered the winning run in the bottom of the eighth to advance in tournament play.
With Allison Lapano scoring position after reaching base earlier in the inning, Izabella Hernandez put the ball in play and reached safely on an Everett throwing error, allowing Lapano to race home with the game-winning run.
Spokane struck first in the opening inning when Lilley Triplett scored on a wild pitch before Shelby Swanson brought home Emma Oergel with an RBI ground ball that resulted in an Everett error, giving the Sasquatch a 2-0 advantage.
Everett answered in the third with RBI plays from Kelsie Jensen and Amanda Webb to tie the game at 2-2, and the score remained deadlocked through seven innings.
The Sasquatch pitching staff dominated from there. Samantha Rensvold started the game and allowed two runs over four innings with five strikeouts. Cassy Seifert was outstanding in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while striking out nine and not allowing a hit.
Together, Spokane pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts in the win.
Triplett led Spokane offensively with two hits, including a double, while Emma Cooke, Skyler Struck, Cadence Hyndman, and Lapano each added a hit. Spokane worked four walks and pressured Everett defensively throughout the game, taking advantage of five Trojan errors.
With the win, Spokane advances and will face the loser of the Lower Columbia vs. Edmonds matchup Friday at 4 p.m. at the NWAC Championships.
