Spokane Falls Short in Road Battle Against Yakima Valley
In a competitive three-set matchup, Spokane showed grit but came up short as Yakima Valley defended home court to secure a sweep.
Spokane volleyball fell in straight sets to Yakima Valley on Friday night, as the Yaks defended their home court with a 3–0 win (26–24, 25–22, 25–18) in Yakima, Washington. Despite a strong effort and several standout performances, the Sasquatch couldn't maintain momentum in key moments of the match.
Spokane battled closely through the opening two sets, narrowly dropping each by just a few points. The Sasquatch hit .103 in the first set and improved to .171 in the second, but Yakima Valley's balanced attack and timely defense proved difficult to overcome. The Yaks closed out the match with a 25–18 win in the third set, sealing the sweep.
Aubree Lane led Spokane offensively with 10 kills and a .250 hitting percentage, while Meloni Miller added five kills on .556 hitting. Setter Bailey Jaworski anchored the offense with 16 assists and contributed two service aces, while Alexis Stolp chipped in four kills and a team-high three block assists. Joy Assonken and Lainey Calvary each added four kills, and libero Coalie Whitman paced the defense with eight digs.
Although Spokane showed flashes of rhythm and resilience, Yakima Valley's efficiency and depth gave them the edge throughout the evening. The Sasquatch will look to regroup and build on the positives from this matchup as they continue through NWAC East Region play.
