Spokane nearly erased an early deficit with a strong second-half push, but Yakima Valley held on late to secure a 67–61 win over the Sasquatch on Saturday afternoon in NWAC play.
The Yaks jumped out quickly, holding Spokane to just seven points in the opening quarter while building early momentum. Yakima Valley maintained control through the first half, taking a 34–18 lead into the break behind steady scoring and pressure defense.
Spokane responded with its best stretch after halftime, outscoring Yakima Valley 18–14 in the third quarter and continuing to chip away in the fourth. The Sasquatch closed the final period with 25 points and brought the game within striking distance in the final minutes, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Sophomore guard Journee Brooks led Spokane with a standout performance, finishing with 26 points while knocking down four three-pointers and going 8-for-9 from the free throw line.
Forward Camia Howard added a strong all-around effort with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Zeryah Stokes provided a spark off the bench with six points.
