Howard, Brooks Lead Spokane Effort on Sophomore Day
Spokane celebrated its sophomore class with a gritty performance but couldn’t close out a 58–54 loss.
Spokane battled for four quarters Wednesday night but couldn't hold off a late push, falling 58–54 at home.
The Sasquatch came out strong, taking a 16–13 lead after the first quarter and staying within striking distance throughout the first half. Spokane tightened things defensively in the third quarter, holding Big Bend to just seven points and carrying a 40–38 advantage into the final period.
In the fourth, Spokane struggled to generate consistent offense, managing 14 points while trying to fend off second-chance opportunities on the defensive end. Despite forcing 18 turnovers and recording 15 assists, the Sasquatch were unable to convert enough down the stretch to secure the win.
Camia Howard led Spokane with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, anchoring both ends of the floor. Journee Brooks added 15 points, hitting two three-pointers and finishing a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Off the bench, Karis Santucci provided an efficient spark with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting along with six rebounds.
Spokane shot 31.8 percent from the field and 3-of-19 from beyond the arc, while also battling on the boards with 10 offensive rebounds.
The Sasquatch showed resilience throughout, particularly in a strong third-quarter defensive effort, but were unable to close it out in the final minutes.
