Danika Curtis recorded six saves to keep the Sasquatch in contention, but Spokane dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Columbia Basin.
In a closely contested women's soccer match, Columbia Basin secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Spokane. The game, held at Columbia Basin, saw both teams enter with impressive records, but it was the home team that emerged victorious, maintaining their unbeaten streak in conference play.
The match remained scoreless through the first half, with both teams struggling to convert their opportunities into goals. Spokane managed seven shots, five of which were on target, but Columbia Basin's goalkeeper, Sam Groesbeck, made five crucial saves to keep a clean sheet.
Columbia Basin, on the other hand, took ten shots, with seven on target. The breakthrough came in the second half at the 57:01 mark when Sophia Medina scored the decisive goal. Medina's unassisted effort proved to be the difference-maker, as she capitalized on a defensive lapse by Spokane to find the back of the net.
Despite the goal, the match was marked by disciplined play, with no fouls recorded from either side. However, Medina did receive a yellow card shortly after her goal, at the 60:20 mark, for a challenge deemed too aggressive by the referee.
Spokane's goalkeeper, Danika Curtis, also had a commendable performance, making six saves to keep her team in the game. However, the offensive efforts from Spokane were not enough to break through Columbia Basin's defense.
The match concluded with both teams having an equal number of corner kicks, three each, but it was Columbia Basin's ability to capitalize on their chances that ultimately secured their victory.
With this win, Columbia Basin improved their record to 8-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in conference play, while Spokane fell to 5-1-0 in both overall and conference records.
