Women's Soccer Punches Ticket to Semifinals with 2–1 Win Over Skagit Valley
The road to Tukwila continues for the Sasquatch. Spokane fought back from an early deficit to top Skagit Valley 2–1, advancing to the NWAC Semifinals at Starfire Sports Complex.
Spokane is heading back to Tukwila. Behind two second-half goals from sophomore forward Mia Miconi, the Sasquatch battled past Skagit Valley 2–1 in Saturday's NWAC Quarterfinal matchup at Spokane Falls, punching their ticket to the NWAC Semifinals at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash.
The match was a defensive grind through the first 45 minutes, with both teams held scoreless despite Spokane outshooting Skagit Valley 3–1. The second half, however, brought all the drama. Skagit Valley's Ava Dungan broke through in the 47th minute, giving the Cardinals a 1–0 advantage. Spokane responded swiftly, just five minutes later, as Miconi buried the equalizer off a well-placed assist from Ana Thompson to level the match at 1–1.
The momentum stayed with Spokane. In the 65th minute, Miconi struck again, this time finishing a pass from Hadley Teed to put the Sasquatch ahead 2–1. From there, Spokane's defense clamped down, allowing just three total shots on goal for the entire match.
Goalkeeper Danika Curtis anchored the back line with two saves, while the Spokane offense tallied 15 total shots, including eight on frame. Skagit Valley keeper Jade Relkoff did her best to keep her team in it, recording six saves, but the Sasquatch's relentless attack proved too much.
With the win, Spokane (11-1-1) advances to the NWAC Semifinals, where they'll face Tacoma on Friday, November 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Washington.
